What are the costs for treatment at Shriners Hospitals for Children?
———————————————————————————————————————————
Shriners Hospitals for Children provide outstanding pediatric specialty care regardless of the patients’ ability to pay. Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals for Children have treated almost a million children, at no cost to them. Locally, the Shriners of El Jebel provide support in terms of travel, by booking airfare for the patient and one parent/guardian, or by providing a nominal sum to those who prefer to travel by car. Parents are responsible for their own meals while the child is hospitalized. Lodging for parents may be available at the hospital; otherwise, lodging is the parent’s responsibility. (In the case of a family with financial need, we can make an exception and cover the cost of meals and lodging.)
So, since there is no charge to the parents for this care, does that mean that the care their children receive will be substandard? Not at all! In fact, Shriners Hospitals for Children provide outstanding care, supported by pace-setting medical research. Many of these hospitals are also medical teaching hospitals, providing advanced training to top-notch physicians and other medical professionals who then help even more children at their own medical institutions.
The care provided at the Shriners Hospitals for Children is extremely expensive; costing around 2 million dollars a day. The Shriners do not charge patients or their families for this care.
